The Parfitt Gallery is located in the University Centre Croydon. The schedule of exhibitions includes established artists and designers and shows by artist in residence, staff and students from the college. The galleries aim is to celebrate the history of Croydon Art School whilst also promoting contemporary issues both artistically and culturally.
Croydon Art School had such names as Bruce McLean, Bridget Riley, Helen Chadwick, Juan Munoz, Sean Scully, Fiona Rae, Malcolm McLaren, Jamie Reid, Lucienne Day and Jonathan Barnbrook (who’s typeface is used for all gallery publications and marketing) either study or teach here. The Art & Design departments within University Centre Croydon continue to encourage an open and experimental approach and as a college gallery the Parfitt Gallery aims to respond and also inform the creative hub that it is part of.
The Parfitt Gallery is named after Margaret Parfitt CBE, JP, SRN and honours her outstanding service as a governor of the college from 1966 until her retirement in 1994, including 19 years as chairman from 1974 to 1993.
